Description

About the Emigrant Trail

Through forests and meadows, past cottages and stone walls, this 110-kilometre-long hiking trail winds its way through the landscape. The trail alternates between footpaths, forest roads, gravel roads, and smaller paved roads, following in the footsteps of Vilhelm Moberg.

The Emigrant Trail passes through the part of Småland that for a long time formed the borderland between Sweden and Denmark, when Blekinge was still Danish territory. The rocky and infertile landscape forced the people of Småland to find creative solutions in order to make a decent living. Countless stone walls along the trail bear witness to this history—a story of human determination and perseverance.

Set out on the trail and experience Småland at its very best.

The Emigrant Trail – Stage UL1: Korrö - Ljuder - Part of the Smålandsleden Trail Network

The trail alternates between narrow paths, forest roads, and gravel roads, making it relatively easy to hike compared to many more rugged and hilly trails. Along the way, you will pass coniferous forests, lakes, meadows, and grazing pastures. Old stone walls bear witness to the hard work of the people of Småland in creating arable farmland from the stony landscape. A few short sections follow minor country roads, but for the most part, the trail consists of forest paths and gravel roads that guide you through the forests and tranquil countryside of Småland.

There are also opportunities to enjoy a refreshing swim along the way.

About some of the places along this stage:

Korrö is a historic crafts and mill settlement located on the Ronneby River and serves as a common starting and finishing point for hikers.

Ljuder Parish holds special significance as Vilhelm Moberg grew up in this area. Many of the characters and settings in his novels were inspired by real places found here.

Conditions

Regulations

Leave only footprints

Everything you bring into nature should be taken back with you. Bring a bag to collect any litter and food waste, and dispose of it in a rubbish bin or take it home.

Light fires safely

The crackling of a campfire is enchanting, but always use a designated fire pit or choose sand or gravel as a base. If conditions are dry, skip the campfire altogether and enjoy a packed lunch instead.

Follow outdoor etiquette

There are outdoor toilets at some locations along the trail. In an emergency, if you need to relieve yourself, do so well away from watercourses and paths used by other visitors. Dig a small hole and cover it with soil or a stone afterwards.

You can check whether a fire ban is in effect at www.lansstyrelsen.se/kronoberg
