The approximately 52 km long stretch between Huskvarnaberget and Grännaberget offers a varied experience. You start the hike at the IKHP cottage, where the view from Vätterbranterna down to Lake Vättern is magnificent. Most of the trail runs through a mixed forest and cultural landscape through “Bauerskogen” and open pastures and cultivated land.

The beginning of the hike is hilly and follows beautiful trails, forest roads, and less-traveled country roads. The closer you get to Gränna, the easier the trail becomes, but there are still some hilly sections.

There are several wind shelters and barbecue areas along the trail, but access to drinking water is limited, so be sure to bring water with you.

Finally, you will enter the Västanå Nature Reserve, where you will walk along the shore of Lake Vättern and pass the old mill environment in Röttle village, reaching Gränna, which is known for its polkagrisar (peppermint sticks) and the adventurer Andrée, among other things.

The John Bauer Trail is named after the artist John Bauer (1882-1918), who is best known for his paintings of trolls, elves, and princesses. John Bauer drew much of his inspiration from the nature between Huskvarna and Gränna. He tragically perished along with his family in a severe storm on Lake Vättern.
